While I actually enjoy cooking, I HATE coming up with meals for my family. I hate the effort for what seems like very little return apart from a few grunts that could mean either they loved it or hated it. I find it a CHORE. Needless to say when I am feeling inspired I look to my cookbooks or to the chefs on television like Michael Smith.
I have always liked Chef Michael. His recipes are rarely daunting and watching him I feel that I can at least attempt what he is showing me. The Back to Basics book is just like that. Each recipe is simple, one page without loads of ingredients that and ingredients that you will probably already have in your pantry. His tomato sauce was great and I added mushrooms and green peppers and did it in the crock pot. Yum.
And we have lots to freeze for later.
Sadly we don’t actually own a dishwasher, so I can only imagine how nice it must be to clean up your dinner dishes using Cascade Platinum. Hopefully the lucky winner can tell me how good it works.
In fact, if you want to share with me an image of your favourite recipe ‘as seen on TV’ or share a photo of your beloved dishwasher so I can sigh in envy, you chance to win the ultimate kitchen prize pack ($50* value):
- A copy of Michael’s book – Back to Basics: 100 Simple Classic Recipes with a Twist
- A supply of Cascade Platinum Pacs Dawn Platinum
- Bounty Select-A-Size (8 roll pack)
To enter, email me an image as directed above to kerry ( @ ) crunchycarpets.com and if you are a blogger include a link to your site. I will share the entries on my Crunchy Carpets Facebook page. Deadline will be October 6th.

Hi… I don’t actually “cook” per se… more McDonald’s drive thru… gets expensive. So then I eat mac and cheese. Or just some scones and smoothie like I ate tonight. Single people, arg.
So I hear you are including a date with Michael into the prize package!
And since I’ve been a vegetarian for 25 years I don’t usually like to have recipe books with meat in them. But the dishwasher soap would be good… and when I am acting as a postpartum doula I may need a meat recipe to cook for the family, but I thought the internet might be good for that.
So I am adding my email to your contest entries because you seemed so sad that nobody was entering the contest! lol
