Every year, I moan and groan about how “The Holidays” are showing up earlier and earlier. I feel grinchy and don’t even want to think about Christmas shopping. At work, we are planning our December schedule that HAS to fit around the dreaded ‘C’ word.
I can’t even.
But it can. It slowly creeps more and more into everyday life. I believe my mom got her first Christmas card the other day. And that is when I remember how much I love Christmas and all that is part of the season. However, we are not a Pinterest family, and because it takes a lot of cleaning and organizing to get this house ready for Christmas decor, we are NOT early decorators – go LIVE trees!!
So while I will wait till the begining of December to haul out the lights and the decorations, there is one thing that I love to buy to get me in the mood, while I start on the lists and the cards and the planning.
That’s right…the lovely Poinsettia. Poinsettias are native to Central America, in particular, an area of southern Mexico, where they flower in the winter. In 1828, the first Ambassador from the US to Mexico, Joel Roberts Poinsett was quite taken with the plants and their fitting seasonal colours, and sent them to a gardener friend in the US and the rest is history.
Known as the ‘Flores de Noche Buena’, or ‘Flowers of the Holy Night’, for Christians, the shape of the poinsettia flower and leaves are thought represent the Star of Bethlehem which led the Wise Men to Jesus. The red colored leaves symbolize the blood of Christ. The white leaves represent his purity.
To all who love Christmas, the Poinsettia makes a perfect Holiday gift for your own home or for friends and family close by or far far away. Contact Flowers for Everyone today at www.flowersforeveryone.com.au to find the perfect arrangement.
