When you are a family of 5, the choice of family vehicles usually does not fall under the descriptor ‘sporty.’ Alas the fun Hyundai Veloster is not the sporty answer to the large families dreams, but almost. It is a roomy four-seater and my brother and sister in law love the older model they have for their family of three.
I don’t know if I would call the Veloster a sports car but the turbo certainly acts like one. Every time I stepped on the gas (when not in eco mode), the kids would shriek and laugh telling me not to drive so fast. You are low and rumbly in the Veloster. It feels sporty and it feels fast. It feels fun.
But don’t feel guilty about all that glossy sleek prettiness. This car has not forgotten practicalities. There is space. A big gal like me wasn’t cramped and the insane moonroof makes you feel like you are driving in space. Oh did I mention space?
Yes, we managed to get my daughters bike in the trunk WITH a full load of groceries too. This is a fun 3-doored car with a grrr. I really enjoyed driving it. It was a nice change from the usual mom-type cars I review. It is also a great price. The Turbo goes for under $27k and is still easy on the gas.
