Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

X-Plore Fort Langley this Summer

July 3, 2014 by Kerry Sauriol Leave a Comment

On July 10, Fort Langley National Historic Site is hosting the Xplorers Launch Party with fun activities, free tattoos, and a souvenir lunch bag for the first 50 participants. Fort Langley is one of 50+ Parks Canada sites offering this adventure program for kids aged 6-12. Each location has its own unique souvenir, so you can collect them all.

We got a taste of this fun when we checked out the Fort for a media day.  The kids had a blast so I think this is what we will be doing on the 10th.  The people at the Fort are so great…fun, friendly and informative.  Fort Langley makes a perfect little ‘staycation’ jaunt for you city slickers and the village itself is so pretty with lovely stores and restaurants.

Fort Langley

Fort Langley National Historic Site undertook extensive renovations and improvements. Some of these improvements were specifically for the Xplorers program, such as the Jr. Blacksmith Shop, where kids can now hammer an anvil and pump the bellows. The site also built a Trade Shop Window by the main entrance—where families sign up for the program—representing the window where Hudson’s Bay workers bartered and traded with First Nations partners in the original fort. The theme of the new and improved Xplorers Program is “Join the Company of Adventurers,” – the name the Hudson’s Bay Company was dubbed centuries ago.

Kids really can sign on for an adventure – with a feather pen that is – and pretend to be the cooper, blacksmith, trader or even the boss.
