I was very happy to join up with Kelloggs and be one of their ‘brand partners’ because like the other products I choose to promote here, it is a brand I eat and enjoy. Special K is one of my go to cereals. I have received a giant box of Special K products and I do need to share my favourites with you, however I was inundated by cereal when a box of new products from Kashi arrived.
I will admit to trying Kashi products before and not being that excited by the taste. I am happy to see that the products have improved taste wise and OMG I am not exaggerating when I say that we all love their Chia Granola Dark Chocolate, Almond and Sea Salt bars are totally amazing.
I tend to be skeptical when any big brand professes to be healthier than say anything I can grow in my garden. However, credibility is big and growing bigger as people get smarter about ASKING about what is in their food. Brands have to be honest….it is getting harder to hide behind slick commercials and gimmicks.
I think Kashi is getting that – I hope so. I would like to think that their Chia based products and their GMO-Free products are more than marketing and are true promise to their customers – to produce a healthy store bought product that I can enjoy. I hope so because man I cannot stop eating those Chia Granola bars…yum.
I have been googling the anti-Kashi sites and reading up on what we should be looking for when it comes to cereal products. I had my mom try the gluten free cereals as she is gluten intolerant but has always loved her bran and fibre. She tried the Simply Maize and Indigo Morning. She actually found them to be a bit too sweet for her tastes, but her main concern for her was that they were bit low in the fibre for her ….she really likes fibre in her food. However she was happy to say that compared to a lot of the ‘gluten free’ choices out there, these had a lot of flavor.
I also tried the Nutty Chia Flax, which amazingly for my sweet tooth was a bit sweet too. But I am enjoying it. What was fun was I also sneaked it to my Cheerios obsessed preschooler who was amazingly okay with it.
I am probably the WORST person to be an ambassador for anything as I am too honest for my own good. I am not the healthiest shopper or eater ….but I try to find a balance and expose my family to a variety of food types and steer them towards the right choices. I may not be the best example to them for sure, but I try. I am not a baker or a juicer nor do I shop at Whole Foods, so my families food choices rely on what we can find at our local grocery store, leading back again to the need to trust brands and those processed foods.
I would recommend that in the future they avoid using words like ‘trends’ when announcing things like Chia and GMO-Free as that sounds a bit too like pandering to the masses instead of embracing healthier choices.
