Last week I had the opportunity to hang with some of my fellow mom (and daddy) bloggers at the lovely ArtStarts offices and get reacquainted with the fun of music. Children’s music that is. Will Stroet put on his teacher hat to help us get in touch with our inner three year old. As well as giving us a taste of his new album ‘Just Imagine,’ he had us up and doing the actions to some of his older favorites and even had us partnering up to sing our own songs.
Why you ask? Music is the best way for kids to learn. Making learning ANYTHING fun is really crucial to helping things sink into active little minds. We all know the ‘clean up’ song now don’t we? Will sorted the types of songs we can do with our kids into three categories: Learn, motivate and get active. Will taught French Immersion and I love that he can sing his songs in French and English. That is what Canada is all about and I love that once again, kids can have fun learning a new language while singing and dancing to his music. I will attach the worksheet here so you can get inspired too.
If that isn’t enough to get your toes tapping , you will have to pick up a copy of his new CD and nab a ticket for one of his shows as he is heading across Canada as we speak. Check out the calendar for links to buy tickets for St. Albert, Banff, Calgary, Toronto and here in Vancouver. In Vancouver Will will be performing as a fundraiser for the Bayview Parent Participation Preschool.
I was very happy to receive a copy of Just Imagine and I can’t recommend it enough. It is a beautiful album inspired by his lovely daughter, Ella and the love and joy of being a dad shines through in every song. I LOVE that we got to learn the SIGNS for his ballad Just Imagine thanks to Lee Ann Steyns of Signing Babies. What a gift to us, and what a lovely skill to gift to kids. I can’t wait to see this song done live in front of the kids.
Chuggada Choo is my favorite musically. The tone (and quality) of the music reminds me of Chris Isaak and the talent behind him. This is an album produced by quality musicians and the talent shines through. This is important as we all know how often a favorite kids CD can be played over and over and over. Will is more than a guy who likes to sing to kids, he is a professional musician and it is a pleasure (and fun) to listen to this new work.
The new album can ordered as CD’s or digital downloads at http://willmusic.bandcamp.com
