The clock is ticking away the minutes till school closes up for a LOOOONG spring break. Over two weeks of me versus the kids. Yes, I am one of those mom’s who will be facing all three children at home by myself with no camps or family vacations to fill in the time. Easter crafts will help fill the time, as will the kids plans to switch rooms (don’t ask), but the rest of the time will be based on the weather and my patience.
Thank goodness for the magic of NETFLIX. We have had a subscription for a while now. I love that we can watch it on any of the various devices we have around here, from my laptop, the iPad to the Xbox hooked up to the main TV The kids usually can find SOMETHING to amuse themselves. With a wide variety of content for children up to the age of 12 available in the Just for Kids section, the following shows and films are just an example of the content that will help keep kids happy over the break:
- Chip Wrecked
- The Adventures of Chuck and Friends
- Rango
- Caillou
- Dora and Diego titles
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid
- Rugrats
- The Karate Kid
- The Adventures of Tintin
- Hoodwinked
However, having the kids dominate Netflix has totally messed up the ‘suggestions’ on it for me. 🙂

Over the past few months, we have virtually stopped watching tv, now that we have discovered Netflix. It is so convenient to have a variety of childrens movies to watch (commercial free), as a family. Instead of watching tv during the week, we now have family movie night each Friday with our 4 & 7 year olds, complete with popcorn and snuggly blankets. I like the parental controls which I can easily set (and then change for the grown ups to watch MI-5 later on the weekend). I also like that I can easily see the recent viewing history, and that you have to enter your password again to change the setting (just another safety precaution to keep the viewing options at G).

I admit that I sometimes let my toddler watch Dora or Diego on my tablet so I can get an extra 20 minutes sleep in the morning. 😛 Trust me, it’s better than a cranky mama!

We use electronics regularily in our home for our children. Our youngest is 3 our oldest is 10 and all are adept at using Ipads and Tablets for both entertainment and for education.
We have no problem allowing them the opportunity because for the most part they mix both entertainment and educational programs and apps.

My kids have been using electronics for years and I have no problem with it. They learn from many of the games and shows and they are both still very active so what’s to worry about?

Here too…It is all about balance in my opinion

My kids love the Blue Planet series that’s featured on Netflix. And before I sound like the most high brow mom in the world…they also love Spiderman, Diego, Bo on the Go etc.
Crunchy Carpets says
LOL…we have a strange mix of ‘fave’ shows here too….

Netflix has a great selection of shows for adults and kids. I would love to win this!

Yes, there is a time and place for electronics and kids. As long as there is some kind of balance.

I won’t lie. They saved me yesterday while I was busy making a ridiculous amount of spring rolls. Those suckers take forever to roll!

I think it is a very astute move for a parent to allow kids to watch Netflix when they first wake up, especially if it is particularly early. Why do I feel this way? Well, just think of your conversational ability when they wake you up at that ungodly hour–what Netfix will do for them has that beat “hands down”!!
