We seem to be accumulating objects that appeal to my kids cos they are new and shiny. Case in point winning the Motorola Xoom and the Motorola Defy from Telus!
Being that my iPhone is FILLED with games, we have told the children that the tablet is child free. My main reason for this is that unlike an iPad, there is not a store filled with free and .99 cent games for them to choose from. This has not gone over well.
So far from my pathetic non expert ‘research,’ that seems to really be the major difference I can see with this tablet and Android based products (or any other non Apple products) versus the juggernaut of the iTunes and App store.
Android apps tend to cost more. And there are less of them.
Other than that, it is a pretty sweet little tool. According to the Telus site it features:
- Super fast dual-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM for faster multi-tasking
- 10.1″ brilliant HD widescreen display
- 2MP front facing and 5MP rear facing cameras
- PC-like web experience with true tabbed browsing, Adobe® Flash® 10 support, and Google Chrome™ bookmark sync.
I have been using this on our home wifi and it can be used with your other Telus Smart Phone’s 3G service too, which is handy. The camera is front and rear for video conferencing and has a nice LED flash too. It has 32 GB’s of memory, and easily syncs with your gmail and Chrome bookmarks. I mostly use Yahoo to pool all my various email addy’s, but had no problem with the Android version and everything else I need was there….my Facebook, Skype, Youtube and Twitter. I sadly prefer the Twitter app instead of the Hootsuite App. It feels clunky and awkward on this. But again the Hootsuite mobile app for my iPhone isn’t much better. I must search for the Android version of Echofon , as that really is the one I prefer.
I will add that the best app I have discovered thus far is KINDLE! How sweet is that!!??
The Motorola Tablet is light and thin and the touch screen feels almost as good as the iPhone/iPad configuration….I suppose it is all about what you are used to.
The home screen layout customization doesn’t feel right or enough. I don’t really like the large widgets for some of the programs as I like to have things ‘laid’ out all tidy like.
I am enjoying surfing from the couch without feeling my eyesight fading.
Obviously for the Android fans out there, this is a great alternative to the iPad.
I am an Android newb, but I also won the Motorola Defy with MOTOBLUR (apparently some cool syncing capabilities) and if we can get that sucker rolling, I will let you know what I think about the differences between my iPhone 3 and this machine.

Looks like great fun. I know what you mean about the games! We have Iphones and Ipods…they are all filled with games that we never play. But, they keep the kiddos occupied when we are doctor visits, etc.
