Sheesh. So tired, I can’t even focus on one thing at at time….I think my brain is at the same productivity level as the dogs…no offence Callie.
We had one day back at school till a massive PUKE session kept Adam home for two days. Yes, a lot of blogging families have been experiencing barf and so on…tis the season and all that, and we got hit. Caity was sick for just one day with it last week, but Adam got it worse. He IS on the mend today thank goodness.
And he was in heaven to get to ‘help’ the crew from our Rental Management co. come in and give us a new thermostat and some ‘energy’ saving devices around the house.
I wonder who will be hit next…Pat or I..it is inevitable.
I just want everyone to be quiet.
Sigh.
So being that I am in the baby way and so are sooo many other people, baby stuff if pretty much on my mind all the time.
I have been researching strollers, beds, slings and all sorts of things.
Buying stuff for babies is fun. Cept I have sooo much baby clothes from Caity, that really..we don’t need to be buying stuff!
I have also been reading up on Doulas.
They offer many services pre/during/and post birth. They are NOT midwives. They are support.
I sent my mom a list of what a doula can do after the baby is born, and she just laughed. It is what she did and does for me.
My mom rushed up and down from her place to ours, everytime we panicked. She helped with diapers, bathing and grocery shopped for us.
For my insane and long labour and delivery, she packed a cooler with snacks for me and the rest of my pit crew.
After, she brought me Starbucks.
The Starbucks part is for me probably the most important.
So..I guess doulas stand in for those of us less lucky to have moms like mine.
Basically, a doula is someone who replaces our mom’s or the wiser/older women of the village.
Or the village that no longer exists.
Sad really.
And I don’t think we really need one, unless my mom tells me to bugger off when I beg for Starbucks.
I think our midwifery group will do a fantastic job and I have been invited to check out a mom’s group run by Adar Birth Services, which for me will be a lovely opportunity to connect with some new people.
And seriously, EVERYONE is pregnant.
My sister in law is due very soon. We are VERY excited about that.
My best friend in Scotland just had her first baby not very long ago.
Loralee of Loraleeslooneytunes, is up the spout.
Nicole of Resolving Timeline Issues is up the spout.
Southern Mom is up the spout.
Dooce is up the spout.
The BELUGA at the Vancouver Aquarium is up the spout…..
and now Velveteen Mind is joining the club!
There is seriously waaaay more than that in the bloggersphere and in real life…you can’t move in Vancouver these days without tripping over baby bumps or, like I noticed at out recent trip to the Aquarium, happy boob fed babies everywhere.
*******
On another note…THANK you to the team at Blogtrepreneur who for some inexplicable reason had my name on a TOP 50 Mommy Blog list.
Those are big names I am up there with.
Seriously, this is a great list of mom blogs to check out if you haven’t already.

You’re so right about moms doing what a doula does. My mom made it for all three of my deliveries. Sure, I could have done it without her. But why?

I think its really sad we no longer have a Village. I have created one around me, I too have a very helpful Mom, but that is not the norm any more is it?
I’m all done with babies, totally completely, but I know when I became pregnant, it seemed like everyone eles in the world was making a bun too….
