Crunchy Husband and I will freely admit to being a tad geeky and nerdy.
We are Nerd Snobs really.
But I don’t think we have ever been nerdy enough. I don’t think we would actually be allowed into the club.
Yes we read sci fi. Yes CH reads conspiracy blogs. We love all things Sci fi and fantasy. If it is good.
We read comics. We have stacks of them AND graphic novels lying around.
We watch Dr. Who. Our kids know the OLD Transformers…the good one’s.
We have even attended comic and fantasy conventions AND CH was even on some of the panels.
Yet….we are not nerdy enough. Not as nerdy as these people. We don’t seem to have the passion about things. We have never joined fanclubs. We have never joined ‘societies.’ We have never had the urge to dress up as characters.
We will happily geek out about Whedon’s X-Men or a good episode of BSG.
But that is about it.
So yet another ‘group’ or ‘demographic’ we don’t fit into. We seem to fall short of the parenting clubs out there…the attachment supporters and what not. We don’t make our own baby food. We eat junk food and let our kids watch tv…….so we are basically subversive parental rebels or something.
Meetup.com has nothing for me. I can’t get THAT fired up about …..I don’t know….what should I be fired up about?
This post caused a bit of a stir recently and really pissed off a lot of people..some people who I consider friends we quite upset about it all. I instead got what the post was about and had a chuckle. I was already in a bit of trouble for stating that I thought the last two Indy movies sucked and had NO interest in seeing the next one. I seemed to be alone in THIS opinion. Oh well.
Blogging is always fascinating. A bit of controversy or disagreement sees the wagons being circled and the torches and pitchforks coming out. There is a lot of virtual shoulder slapping and cyber hugs or pats on the back for standing up to whatever is going on.
Have you noticed these squabbles are usually over very minor things? I tend to not take them too seriously. I liken them to some of the debates I have had with CH and our friends. CH tends to not like a lot of the same books I do. We will get into HEATED debates about them. But it is all fun.
Right?
Of to go dust my Dalek.
LMAO…speaking of nerds……go read my buddy’s dream.
You nerd! You nerdy-nerd NERD! LMAO…
I think mybe that was what caused the dream, you have solved a mystery for me YAY! I was reading about the new Indiana Jones talk and I saw a pict of old Harrison Ford. Yikes. What could he DO in the new film? Pop his dentures back in before squealing at a garter snake?
OK Im KIDDING, I know many 60 year old actors can be tough stuff in films and still make the gals swoon, but this time I was questioning it thats all.
I’ll rent it when it comes out ;)And watch the Star Wars over and over and over hehehehe
Crunchy, from what I’ve hear you are nerdy enough. You don’t have to join a group for that. π
Dude, you are SO nerdy enough. I prefer the term “geeky”, though. π
New Dr. Who episodes start July 6 for us! Woo-hoo!
The internetz are much like life that way; I mean, seriously, how many arguments, fights or disagreements are actually about anything except the drama in and of itself? Not many. If it won’t matter a month from now, it won’t matter six months or five years from now so…let’s all just get along. Right? Riiiiiiiiiiight.
I’ve never been to a convention or done half the things that a rabid sci-fi fan usually does.
I didn’t like that post because it was mean spirited. It reminded me of something Ann Coulter would do. Through out a bunch of hateful things and see what sticks and how much attention she could get from it. The message wasn’t the point, the attention was.
I’m not about defending anything blindly. But I don’t automatically take the contrary position either, as I feel is that other blogger’s strategy. If you look over the blog, her M.O. is to try to piss people off by deliberately making statements against the sci-fi community. It’s not about taste or intelligence as she’d like to claim. She’s just trying to get blog traffic and we foolishly fed that.
Oops, that should say “Throw out a bunch of….”
S…I know it was a mean spirited post..but I really didn’t see the hatefulness in it. I still think people took it all too seriously.
I read through most of the blog and again…it was bitchy and sarcastic..but I found most of it rather amusing.
But again, to each their own…..
if I started a bitchy and sarcastic club would you join? lmao….I’d so fit into that one! π
My dad used to always say I was a jack of all trades and a master of none…….you can be a little of this and a little of that, perhaps a little geeky, but not a master nerd. It’s getting harder to be “well-rounded” these days without being labelled wishy-washy.
I am TOTALLY going to use “dusting my Dalek” as a euphemism from now on.
“I’ll be in my bunk.”
