I love all things geology. I even took a geology class in college and bored everyone around me by yelling out the types of rocks that I could identify all around me. Thus I was thrilled a few years ago, when I got to check out the exhibit hall at the annual AME BC conference. AME BC is the lead association for the mineral exploration and development industry based in British Columbia. Established in 1912, AME BC represents, advocates, protects and promotes the interest of thousands of members who are engaged in mineral exploration and development in BC and throughout the world.
It is an industry conference and not for the public….it is all about business. So it is fantastic to see that this year they are hosting an interactive Discovery Day for the entire family on Sunday, January 24th at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre.
Highlights from the event include:
- ‘Ask a Geologist’: bring your favourite rock and a geologist will help you determine what it is and where it came from
- Yukon Dan: Try your hand at gold panning and take home real gold flakes
- Ice Age Fossils with Grant Zazula
- Earthquake display and preparedness workshop
- Fun activities for young children including face painting and balloon animals
