The carpets at our house are not only crunchy but furry. We currently have three cats and two crazy dogs as part of our menagerie. We are by no means animal experts. We just love them and feel that they all add to the family. We are truly grateful for their love and affection and in return we do our best to take care of their minds and their bodies, through good diets, exercise, socialization and education. This meant that we were more than ready to take up the offer from the President’s Choice® Nutrition First® team and opened our minds and home to a visit from a local Pet Psychic, Beverly Crook.
We had no idea what to expect from the visit, but all of us were happy with any insight into our rescue dogs heads, particularly Zia, our dog from the streets of India. We find Zia to be a bit of an enigma wrapped in a riddle. She does not generally act like regular dogs and seems to be very confused about some of the things Lily our other mutt does.
Beverly was calm and quiet and gentle and the dogs seemed very befuddled by her. She took in the chaos that is our world. She watched how the dogs reacted to us and how we reacted to them. She not only listened with her head but you could tell she was ‘feeling’ things out….how our emotions meshed or clashed with our pets and what caused confusion or frustration for both two and four legged.
We have had a few trainers and so-called experts visit our house. Every one left us feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. All of the ‘training’ felt awkward and too one-size-fits-all for us. None seemed to really help us figure out Zia’s issues.
We have been so close to giving up on her many times, but we couldn’t. We aren’t those types of people. We love her because she is different.
Beverly got that. Beverly’s ability to read us and Zia gave her the ability to help us find ideas that would work for all of us. Instead of preaching whatever dog training school mantra that many follow, Beverly came up with ideas that fit US….that we could all see ourselves doing without feeling awkward or just not fitting into our life and values.
It was a truly rewarding and amazing way to spend a Saturday morning.
We have been a tad remiss in following up on many of her ideas. Caitlyn has done best with some of the ideas for approaching ‘discipline’ and things like barking at people at the door. We all need to get on the program for this and part of that will probably involve bringing Beverly back again to coach us through it.
Our experience certainly showed us that the folks behind President’s Choice® Nutrition First® care about the hearts and minds of their four-legged customers.
