With the dearth of electronic devices in this family, Netflix can be a bit of a solitary experience. And I am okay with this…..after a crazy day or week, my escape from stress, noisy kids, the works can mean a date with my bed, the laptop, headphones and Netflix. I watched this last week when I had had enough. It was quite fun. The whole family have their own preferences and you know what, that is okay. Everyone needs some quiet alone time to indulge in a fave TV show, cartoon or film. We all need to destress an escape from the daily grind.
How did we survive before Netflix?
My list is a bit different from the kids lists I am sure. But I try to sprinkle my list with some shows THEY may like too. In fact it was Caity who got me to watch The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, about Hayao Miyazaki’s life and Studio Ghibli. We are hardcore Totoro fans here.
My husband and I recently watched another amazing documentary on Netflix called Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau. I can’t recommend this enough if you are a film buff. Think Apocalypse Now but an even WORSE production experience. Yes. WORSE.
I also urge you to watch Sense8. Not suitable for kids….this show is still absolutely delightful and groundbreaking in all that it does…from the way it is filmed to the cast and to the storyline itself. The Wachowski’s have truly outdone themselves with this Netflix Original.
However, we do group together to see if there is something we can all watch. Tara and I are suckers for all things Disney and I love that I can satisfy my nostalgia needs when Netflix has shows like:
and:
I think anytime you can connect your own youth with something the kids enjoy can bring you closer together. It at least reminds them that you were young once too and not born a fully formed ‘mom.’ Tara is boggled that Disney existed before she did and how could there be movies she hasn’t seen yet?
Tomorrow is the official start of Fall and the blankets will now be pulled out and what better way to ignore a dreary day than to make some popcorn and pile on the couch to watch a mutually agreed upon selection from #Netflix_CA.
