Big Hero 6 is now out on Blue Ray/Combo DVD. It was recently awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Granted it was not nominated against any other huge giants other than How to Train Your Dragon 2, but I think it still deserved the win for a number of reasons.
As demanded, I took all three to see Big Hero 6 when it came out. And we all watched it again today on the DVD. There is a lot of great animation these days, but often it the shows appeal to one gender or another or are more for little kids than older kids and so on. Big Hero 6 is great for all ages and genders. My 12 year old loved it as much as the 6 year old did and there are plenty of chuckles for us grown ups too. Baymax is such a sweet robot and the way the kids in the movie interact with each other feels natural and kind. And I always love examples of people and kids being kind to each other. And no swearing. Just kids aspiring to be scientists so that they can do cool stuff. LEARN TO CODE 🙂
I just wish these movies would stop with the killing of the loved one’s in order to move the plot ahead. I would much rather have seen Hiro and his brother develop their relationship.
Big Hero 6 is actually ‘inspired’ by a comic series of the same name that is NOTHING like the movie, but pretty good in its own right. The most they got from the comics is the characters names and relationships. This is basically the kid version of a much more adult but still anime type story. We could say that this movie is a gateway to anime and Japan comic culture…which is fine in my books.
