…or at least the little mishaps that make them all such wonderful memories.
I may or may not have cooked the Turkey WITH the bag of giblets in it once. And there was the Thanksgiving that I sliced open my finger while carving yet another innocent bird. Blood everywhere.
Unlike many people we just have a teeny tiny family to manage over the holidays. There are not mass gatherings ….though there were in the past and I enjoyed them all. All those parties helped me learn what sort of dips and sides I liked. Now my mom HAS to make the Broccoli, Cheese and Rice casserole …..it is carved in stone.
We also now co-cook the big dinner with my mom. We do it all on Christmas Eve so we can all live in our pj’s then next day.
Last weekend we had a fun Tenants Turkey Dinner, which my mom helped prepare. I was chatting with one of my neighbours about how Campbell’s soups are a cornerstone of so many of our recipes. I always make sure I have broth and various cream soups in my cupboard as my go-to’s for sauce starters.
Or Christmas dinner when that turkey doesn’t work out.

It was our first time roasting the chicken in this new rotisserie we had received. We had a faulty egg timer and didn’t know it at the time. So needless to say in the midst of prepping other meals and decorating the poor chicken got burnt to a crisp. Luckily we had enough dishes to serve everyone and someone was already bringing over a turkey.

YES!! A couple years ago I made my first turkey for a whole lotta family. I wanted it to be perfect so I tried bringing it. I’m not sure where I went wrong but the thing was cooked but tasted raw and so weird. I was so embarrassed.

We’ve never ordered pizza for Christmas. I guess we’ve been lucky so far! Last year however, my aunt was going to bring a turkey for Christmas and she had it outside in an old fridge. The dog found the raw turkey and ate most of it! My aunt was busy calling around to see where she could get a turkey and a local restaurant sold her one. It was great tasting turkey!

We’ve only done one Christmas so not yet!
I do remember one thanksgiving growing up that was turkey TV dinners due to a move. We were young and thought it was awesome!

No pizza – we are pretty lucky. There was one year my sister in law cooked the turkey and didn’t allow enough time to cook it so it was still when we went to eat. So we had to make due without it and eat the turkey later on on its own!

I made a chocolate cake for my Christmas dinner dessert. It was my first attempt at making a cake from scratch. The cake felt like it weighed 5 pounds and ended up being so dry and hard that it wasn’t edible. I had to get an emergency cake from the grocery store and frost it.
