My husband boggles at the interest that his family has in cars. I explained that it was the fact that I and his kids have Brit blood and he doesn’t and that is why he doesn’t ‘get’ Top Gear and why the kids shriek SPOILER when they see one on a car. I love that the kids are intensely interested in the type of cars I have been lucky enough to review. They ALL have their opinions. They are a tad bitter that I have not yet shown up in a car with a spoiler, a lambo or a McLaren.
Frankly, I wish everyone who is trying to buy a car could test out vehicles for a few days instead of a short drive before making their decision. Getting to use a car in ‘real’ world situations and seeing how said vehicle fits into your life is so important. We certainly got a chance to see that with the Hyundai Elantra.
To be honest, the Elantra is one car that has never been on my radar, but I will admit to really enjoying the drive. I have tested out older models and you can see how this car gets better every year. It is a good solid car and it got us through an evening of activity in safety and comfort. I test drove this car leading up to Halloween. The weather was ATROCIOUS, but we had some activities planned to get us in the mood for the spooky night ahead. So despite the torrential rain we packed up the kids (yes all of us fit nicely in the Elantra) and drove down to Canada Place to enjoy the Halloween version of Flyover Canada. If you haven’t experienced this attraction yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. It is lovely and amazing and they had gone crazy with their decorations, so the kids were buzzing despite the dripping rain.
It was pitch black when we got out of there and after a quick snack stop we headed into the dark again to Stanley Park and their spooktacular Ghost Train. The Elantra made me feel safe and in control despite the weather. I also must be going blind in my old age and HATE driving in the dark. The streetlights reflecting on the slick roads to not make for fun driving, but I again felt in control and could see thanks to the great headlights and wipers. An integrated Vehicle Stability Management System, Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control System, six airbags, and Hillstart Assist Control are all standard in the Elantra.
The interior of the Elantra feels stylish and sporty. It is also very roomy and the trunk is HUGE. The fact that not only are the front seats heated but the REAR too was a huge hit and the kids were sold. Especially when we returned to the vehicle after a thorough soaking at the Ghost Train. We haven’t done the train in a while now and I have to say Vancouverites rock with their enthusiasm for what is now a beloved tradition for so many. The amount of people who were there in that weather IN COSTUMES with their families was amazing to behold. Rain does not stop us wet coasters from having fun.
And we thank Hyundai for getting us all into the spooky spirit of the season.
Next…Christmas.
