Honestly, until there is a practical and affordable plan for smart phones for the whole family, my kids will have to wait and (poor babies) rely on the school wifi and their iPods to reach me. We are shelling out $135 for two of us right now and that is just enough thank you. But is the Nokia Lumia 635 a contender when that happens? Absolutely. It has a great price point with both Rogers and Telus offering it at around $200 for no term or month to month.
I have cringed watching my 12 year old’s buddies destroy one smart phone after another. HOW is this okay? The Nokia Lumia does have a tough exterior. More durable than an iPhone or the giant Samsungs. Any machine that we are going to market to parents and or kids need to be tough. I get that you can buy protective cases, but durability needs to be considered more than it is currently.
I was lucky enough to review the Nokia Lumia 610 a couple of years ago and was just as impressed then as I am now. I now have a Windows 8.1 laptop at home and my husband has one that is a touch screen. So basically, apart from the i stuff around the house – when it comes to business we are ALL Microsoft and the OneDrive. This makes the Windows phone an easy device for us to adjust to.
I love the ease at customizing the home screen. I love that I can set the phone up with just the app and devices that I want (oh yea, what my KIDS want, for back to school, keep forgetting that).
What else is there..oh yes, the camera. FUN camera.
You have THREE choices for editing and playing with your photos. There is the traditional ‘crop, rotate and auto-fix.’ ‘Nokia Creative Studio’ and ‘Nokia Glam Me.’ Glam Me is a facial recognition feature that can pretty up any selfies. The Creative Studio is similar to Instagram, with various filters. All in all, lots of fun opportunities for photo-editing.
Ok what else has me squealing. MixRadio! OMG. Am having WAAAY too much fun with this feature. I am sitting here listening to a Violent Femmes, Sinead O’Connor, New Order mix!!
I have been fortunate to own an iPhone, and have used and reviewed Blackberries, Android devices and the Windows phones. Android has been a bit confusing for me, to be honest. Apple beats most when it comes to adaptability and low learning curve. I would say the Windows phones come a close second.
The Nokia Lumia 635 is a nice compact and versatile phone. I don’t know if I will give it up to let my kids have it.
