Christmas came a bit early for me. To say that I am a bit of a coffee junkie is an understatement. My family all know to not talk to me unless caffeine has been first consumed. However I am the only coffee drinker in the family so finding a coffee maker that works for us has been an ongoing journey.
I was lucky enough to receive a couple of Tassimo coffee makers a while ago and the speed and convenience of that brand was great. As was the coffee and tea brands that I could purchase for the Tassimo. I was however a tad concerned about the disposal of the tiny compact pods.
And so you can imagine how happy I was to receive the Keurig K70 Platinum machine in the mail to try out. It’s pretty sweet. It is not as ‘instant’ as the Tassimo when it comes to brewing(as it needs to warm up) BUT….it is quieter so for me who is up before the rest of the family and REALLY REALLY cherishes peaceful time to ENJOY my coffee, this is huge plus for me.
Keurig has nailed this one for me anyway in that it is PROGRAMMABLE! I can set it to brew for me in the am! I don’t have to wait for it to warm up! You can also set it for cup size too as I do enjoy my giant mugs for coffee and tea as does my new tea addict, Caity. It also has a nice big water container.
An insane amount of brands make beverage pods for the Keurig. This is one of my top finds:
The Granville Island Coffee company has these little starter kits with a reusable pod to make it easier to dispose of their coffee grounds in a more ‘environmentally friendly way.’ The pod works great with tea bags too. Our housing is FINALLY getting our own recycling and compostable program with the City of Vancouver and the Keurig system and this will make it a lot easier to comply AND enjoy tasty coffee and tea.
My local grocery store didn’t have too many exciting pod brands when I was there, so will have to search around a bit more and report to you on the favorites as I find them. So far the Keurig system is a big thumbs up for me. A great Christmas present for the Coffee lover in your life.
