Preserving the Family’s Outdoor Living Space

Your deck and patio is, hopefully, an extension of your indoor living space. It should reflect your style, provide a fun and safe place for the family to spend time together, and offer a great space for entertaining guests. Your patio furniture is the hub of the space—it is where people are drawn to sit and be comfortable when conversing. Protecting the integrity of your outdoor furniture will promote additional use where memories will be made for years to come. One simple, inexpensive way to achieve this is to invest in patio furniture covers. Read on to discover how this simple investment makes a great deal of sense.

Know your furniture

Depending on what the furniture is constructed from, you may have to bring it indoors anyway. In an article by NBC the author states that aluminium and wood furniture is generally safe to leave in colder weather. Glass tabletops are also safe to expose to cold conditions, as is wrought iron (if it rusts it will need to be painted). Wicker, on the other hand, will expand and crack in extreme colder temperatures, and should therefore be brought indoors.

Why cover the furniture?

Of course patio furniture covers do not heat your furniture, but they do protect your expensive pieces from assailants found in extreme weather such as blowing dirt and dust, which can cause the furniture to rust and fade, as moisture becomes trapped under the particles. Having a well-made cover for your furniture is vital to prolonging its life. When shopping for patio furniture covers, make sure the material is durable, UV treated, and 100% waterproof. Poorly constructed covers can let in light, dirt and water that will ruin your furniture. Remember, hail, rain and snow can pack quite a punch, and having a heavy-duty protective cover for your furniture and grill may even double their life expectancy. Also, look for covers that have sewn-in straps that can be tied to the furniture’s legs to ensure a snug fit that can withstand harsh winds. Patio furniture is just as expensive as indoor living room furniture is. The last thing you want is for your furniture to blow into the pool, or get rattled in a hailstorm.

Quality counts

You didn’t buy flimsy IKEA patio furniture, so why would you buy a poorly made cover to protect your items? Investing in a well-made set of patio furniture covers doesn’t mean you will be spending big bucks either. Rather, you will be a smart shopper saving money that would otherwise be needed to repair or replace your furniture. Here are some features you will want to look for:

·      100% waterproof
·      UV treated
·      Positive air flow venting
·      Eco-friendly construction
·      Straps and buckles
·      Double stitching
·      Good warranty

Choosing a product that offers these features will offer the ultimate in protection to your furniture so that your family may enjoy the pieces for many more years to come.

Preserving the American pastime

Nothing shouts “American pastime” more than grilling and barbecuing outdoors in the summer time (that and baseball). For generations, families have been congregating around the patio, grilling up steaks, corn, and sharing stories. The patio is the hub of our cultural gathering, and by protecting the accoutrements of its space, we are ensuring more richness to fill our family histories for generations to come.
