Back in the summer, the kids had an amazing day up on Grouse Mountain, when they were invited to check out all the great activities they had up there. We spent a glorious day up there and the kids have not stopped talking about it. However, we are not skiers sadly, so we have never experience Grouse in all its snowbound glory. Thus we were very happy to have the chance to head up there yesterday to see what Grouse had in store for their ‘Peak of Christmas‘ fun.
Winter Wonderland
I don’t know of many places in the world where you can take a 25 minute (snowless) drive, park your car and in 8 minutes be up in a magical winter wonderland. I loved watching what seemed to be parentless tweens who perhaps took the bus to the base, heading away for a fun afternoon of skiing and snowboarding. I envy them, that is for sure.
Grouse Mountain has done a great job of making sure us non skiers have a bit of fun though. Not only can you go skating, you can check out two of Santa’s Reindeer, as well as ‘Holly’ trying out for a job with Saint Nick, AND have a visit to see the Jolly Old Elf himself.
We were thrilled to see how well novice Caity did on a pair of skates. She managed to go around by herself with no help after a bit of practice. Adam himself is a natural at skating. Is totally at ease on the ice after really only skating ONCE before during the 2010 Olympics. He makes it look easy. Tara was not impressed.
What Does it Cost?
While you have to pay to rent skates, the rest of the attractions are included in your lift ticket. The Alpine Experience tickets include access to outdoor ice-skating, sleigh rides, snowshoe trails, our month-long Peak of Christmas celebration, and more. A family can head up on the Skyride for $79.95. Children under 4 ride for free. The all day parking was only $5. The children loved warming up in the Chalet listening to the choir and checking out all the amazing Gingerbread creations for the SOS Children’s Fund. There is also a Breakfast with Santa planned, so check out their website for details to book ahead for that.
