I have always loved history and the fashions of the past. Since I was young I loved drawing the beautiful gowns of times gone by. I loved old movies and historical films for that same reason. Therefore I was delighted to get a chance to attend the opening night of the Museum of Vancouver’s newest exhibit, Art Deco Chic: Extravagant Glamour.
My photos don’t do the clothing justice. You have to see them for yourselves. The garments and accessories on display come from the private collections of Ivan Sayers and Claus Jahnke, as well as from the MOV and other’s collections. Ivan’s collections are a treasure and we are so lucky to have someone like him and Claus preserving a bit of our past.
I love all things Art Deco. I love the exuberance of making all things….from the mundane to special, beautiful. I love the exuberance of the 20’s and 30’s. Women’s new found freedoms were expressed in their fashion choices. From bright fabrics to incredible beadwork, everything spoke of life and glamour.
The Museum of Vancouver makes a great effort to connect us to our own past. It was great to see the opening night gala being so fully supported. The crowd had certainly joined in the spirit of eras past and were all glammed up in various fun takes on the time. There were headbands, and feathers and beads galore. I wore long strings of pearls, but some ladies out did themselves.
The exhibit runs until September 23rd. The museum has many other Art Deco inspired events coming up, please check out their website for more information.

Wow, classic gowns and dresses. I’m also interested in them. How many gowns were actually exhibited there? Thanks for sharing the pictures. I can just imagine those times.
