Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

Let Hexbugs Overrun Your Home

December 8, 2011 by Kerry Sauriol Leave a Comment

Adam received a Nano Spiral Starter kit for his birthday in the spring.  It was a HUGE hit. You cannot NOT smile at these busy robo bugs buzzing around jostling each other. Hexbug Nano’s are tiny robotic bugs that ‘vibrate’ and with their little rubbery legs act like real bugs.

Innovation First Trading kindly sent us an AMAZING package of Hexbugs sets to try out. I currently have a GIANT Hexbug city in my son’s room as he whiles away his time combining all the sets to make one giant ‘super habitat’ for his pets.

The sets click together really easily avoiding frustration for those less ‘patient’ kids on your Christmas lists and most kids are recommended for kids ages 3 and up.  Though a 3 year old would need help and supervision of an adult.   The bug batteries also last quite a long time….how long can you really listen to them all buzzing and bumbling away without needing a break!.  When ALL the Hexbugs we received to try out are going, it vibrates the floor.  Needless to say, the cats are MESMERIZED.

The HEXBUG Nano can now come to life day or night with the Glow in the Dark HEXBUG Nano Starter Set. The Glow in the Dark HEXBUG Nano is a micro robotic bug that when switched on, skitters around to work its way through any maze, maneuvering through open orange gates and pathways that keep it contained most of the time! It can even flip to its feet when turned on its back. The Glow in the Dark HEXBUG Nano Starter Set is perfect for any first time HEXBUG Nano owner, and contains one extremely rare glow in the dark HEXBUG Nano mutation.  My son was yelling about ‘OOOH THIS IS A RARE ONE!’  And yes we were all sitting in the dark watching them.  You will too.

The HEXBUG® Nano Bridge Battle Habitat Set allows kids to create the ultimate battleground for the HEXBUG Nano. HEXBUG Nano owners place their bugs on either side of the elevated arena where they must scurry over an orange bridge, through one-way gates and meet in the center battle platform. HEXBUG Nanos nudge and knock their competitor out of the battle arena until only one bug is left standing and reigned champion. Bridge Battle comes with 29 easy connect pieces that two rare HEXBUG Nanos.  The boys were REALLY excited about this one as they have seen the ads on TV for this and it is the centerpiece of the giant Hex world now.  It retails for around $39.95.

So yes, the Hexbug sets are not cheap.  But they are well made.   What makes these a great  gift in my books is that both boys and girls like them.  Caity has her own collection of bugs now.  The bugs sell for about $6.99 each.  The starter kit with one bug is only $19.99, so that makes it a good gift idea for the newbie to Hexbugs.   What gives them my stamp of approval also is that they are fun enough for my jaded Xbox loving kids to play with.  Any toy that lets my kids use their own creativity and fun that isn’t a video game is a big plus for me. Hexbugs appeal to the sophisticated palates that kids have developed when it comes to toy choices these days.
