After a lengthy and extensive community-build playground project application and review process with KaBOOM. Through the generous efforts of KaBOOM and our funding partner, Foresters, I am please to hear that Champlain Heights Community School has been chosen for the site of a new playground.
The playground will be built on Saturday, July 9, 2011.
As well as the new playground, they will also creating some site enhancement projects such as:
- Planter benches, Picnic tables, Chess/checker board tops, Murals, Painted asphalt games, Painted basketball courts, Stepping stones, Painted wood for fence, and Bulletin boards
The community-build model is designed to help a community not only build a playground, but also strengthen existing support networks and discover new assets within the community.
This is long overdue. That playground has been there as long as I can remember. It was outdated and unsafe, but at the same time a focus for parents and students alike to gather with children small and large.
The students are very excited about this and have been involved in designing their ‘dream’ playground for the build.
The School and PAC are looking for 150 (at least) volunteers to make this a success.
They need individuals that can assist with the planning of this event and/or on the Prep days or build days.
? Prep day July 7 from 0830- 1430 (6 hrs) (ADULTS ONLY)
? Prep day July 8 from 0830- 1430 (6 hrs) (ADULTS ONLY)
? Build day is JULY 09 from 0830-1630 (8hrs)
For planning purposes we need to form the following committees:
- Recruitment and registration
- Youth involvement (Children’s activities)
- Construction
- Resources
- Food
- Logistics
- Public relations
- Safety and maintenance
Please contact Arlene at 604-431-6635 or by email at edrrr@shaw.ca or Deanna at dloster@shaw.ca if you would be able to volunteer for this wonderful community event.
If you live in the area or just want to support community schools….please help!
