This. This Man. AND his family totally boggled us and made us wonder why they were there..in front of us. They came in as the ‘interaction’ demo was winding up and showed NO interest in their ponchos, pom poms ,etc. Well the one daughter did…she sulked and tore it apart…shredded it to pieces.
He did not crack one smile. ONE.
They left BEFORE the Cauldron was to be lit.
To quote my totally inappropriate son who was scolded for his crudity …”What a Douche.”
We wore our ponchos! Gladly….the place looked beautiful all decked out in the swirly Olympic shades.
And our nosebleed seats were pretty good too…except we couldn’t see the big screen that told us WHEN to do our sparkly cards, or pom poms or sign language and so on.
The stage was below us so we saw the back of the singers heads but that was okay….the kids just stood at the stairs to watch!
The kids, of course, LOVED the flying Sumi…..that was probably the low point of the night for the rest of us!
The rest of it was really beautiful, and inspirational…though I have to admit, while the tributes to Terry Fox AND Rick Hansen were great..they did slow down the momentum of the show.
I did like seeing how interested my kids were in their story though…so Terry’s legacy does live on.
I loved the audience enthusiasm. Everyone stayed on their feet and danced and cheered for the athletes. Having a ‘Yo Gabba Gabba esque’ DJ group handle that was great and kept the energy high.
However..seeing my daughters face and hearing her shrieks when Canada entered the stadium was rather akin to another coliseum in another age and I could picture here shrieking with thumbs down for the death of some hapless gladiator.
She scares me.
I am really glad we went. I think this was a great thing for my kids to be a part of. They seem to thoroughly enjoy the whole thing…from skytrains, to walking, to security, to WAITING..they did great.
We didn’t even wince too much at the $5 dollar bottles of Coke!

I’m glad that you got to attend. And I’m glad to see so much energy and attention going into the Paralympics. The athletes deserve it!

It sounds like such a fun time – minus the “douche family”. We watched it on TV. I wish I’d thought of trying to buy tickets for the Paralympics.
