Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

Nintendo and a Rainy Afternoon (and why I can’t see late movies anymore)

July 29, 2008 by Kerry Sauriol 9 Comments

So we actually made it out to see The Dark Knight last night. Totally fantastic movie..so much..so many layers..so dark…Ledger’s interpretation of The Joker was perfection…he was the opposite of everything The Batman believed in himself and his cause. He felt he was for order and control…the Joker was a representation of total anarchy.

I loved how we had NO origin. He just was.

Anyway..the movie finished really really late and sadly, that just about killed us this am. I could barely wake up and had a headache….Patrick was feeling sick and swore it was the popcorn and the late night.

We are sad pathetic creatures.

So…not much done at the Crunchy Household today. Not much at all.

While I was hiding upstairs for a brief moment the children figured out the ‘pictochat’ feature on their Nintendo DS. This is interesting and amusing being that they are both basically illiterate.

What followed was them swarming me and the dog on the bed and us sitting drawing ‘rude’ things and sending it to each other…with much sniggering and so on.

I will freely admit I drew bums and peepees for my children. It was an hour of juvenile heaven.

Yes, it was not educational..it was not LEAPFROG or any such thing…but it was the three of us laughing and joking together.

We did feel sort of guilty when we purchased the DS’s for both our kids. But we have been choosy about the sort of games they have and BY GOD THE HEAVEN OF A QUIET CAR…is so worth it.

I also boggle at my four year old happily touch screening and dragging and dropping.

Feel free to condemn my poor parenting. We had fun.
My headache went away.

The house is still a mess.
The laundry is not yet sorted.

Oh well.

LOL. That rocks. You’ve just sent flashes of my own kids’ shenanigans through my mind.

    Cherish every day with them.

I don’t think that it’s bad parenting at all. I think it’s awesome that you can enjoy playing with your kids and their toys. Years ago families played board game like Monopoly – that was in style then, DS is in style now.
