Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

Other People’s Kids

May 3, 2007 by Kerry Sauriol 2 Comments

Motherhood Uncensored reminded me of an ‘incident’ yesterday at the mall.

We were there paying the ransom for Caity – Wiggles DVD’s and appeasing Adam with used transformer toys (don’t ask).

Caity wanted to ride one of those goddammed mall toy things that cost a bleedin fortune.

This one was a little ‘horey’ merry go round.

I had one dollar coin to my name so away it went to her happy joy joy.

She got her ride and was FAIRLY happy, cept she wanted to again and no amount of me telling her that  mommy was flat broke was going to help…but she WAS winding down.

Then this other girl jumped on.  She swung round and thrust her pudgy hand out at me and said ‘GIVE ME MONEY FOR THIS RIDE!’

To say I was slightly perturbed is probably an understatement…mind you, my new meds are great and so I didn’t tell her to fark off.

I did tell her that ‘No I would NOT give her money and that she needed to go and ask her own mommy about going on the ride.’

Her own mommy was lurking behind me and slowly strolled up with a dollar and said something about how marvelous it was that her daughter had figured out how to ask people for rides.    I didn’t manage to point out that her darling daughter was learning to ask for things without one PLEASE OR THANK YOU.

Grrrrr.

At least Caity got a second ride out of it.
