BlueFur.com is the home of Crunchy and Wet Coast.
I was happy to find a local company (whoo Canada) and one in which I know the owner AND one that offers such a great deal.
They are doing a little contest right now to ‘review’ their new name!
They had to change their name for top secret reasons recently and BlueFur is obviously inspired by their logo and that is fine by me.
I like it. Even if you totally avoid the similarities to a over merchandised animated creature out there right now, the name has a certain …hmmm…I don’t know…cool factor?? Do you not think so?
It trips lightly of the tongue. It is enigmatic enough to have a person wondering about it…..it captures your attention and you sense a bit of fun surrounding it. The name accomplishes this even before you see their logo. The mood set by the name relaxes a potential customer and piques their curiosity.
I am no expert on branding. But I do think that the less complicated the name, the better. I also think that obscure names can be better than names that sound too similar to other companies, etc. Attention grabbing. As long as the name has some sort of meaning or half decent story behind it that you can explain to potential clients.
BlueFur makes for great business cards! Or mugs that say ‘I am hosted by BlueFur! That would be fun!
So while we are sad that they were FORCED by big meanies with more money than sense to change their name. And while it has probably been a bit of a pain in the rear to go through it. It was probably a blessing in disguise and their new name should push their business further into people’s consciousness and make them all rich.
BlueFur SHOULD make a person go and google it right away. I would.

Did anyone tell John Chow it was top secret? 😉
