Walt Disney’s Lady and the Tramp Giveaway

February 22, 2018 by Kerry Sauriol 23 Comments

I just finished watching Walt Disney’s newest addition to their Signature Collection –  Lady and the Tramp  – with Tara and Caity.  Caity had to leave when Aunt Sarah got all mean with muzzles and so on for poor Lady.  Tara hung on but said she was sure she might cry later.  As a family with dogs and cats, this movie was a rollercoaster of emotions for them.

The damage old school Disney did to our childhood psyches!   Kids from 1955 must have been way tougher than we were. I can’t even get a GLIMPSE of Dumbo without losing it.  Lady and the Tramp tackles big issues for animal lovers.  My kids were aghast at some of the attitudes and assumptions about pets and babies, many attitudes that still prevail today.  It also makes us question how we treat animals when no one loves them anymore.

Big Stuff.

With very cute dogs and gorgeous animation.

The DVD comes with some great bonus features, including a mini documentary about the inspiration for the story.   Lady and the Tramp is still one of my favourites.

Oh my, I saw this first time around, sobbed my heart out at the ‘pound’ scenes, but the wonderful song ‘He’s a Tramp’ sung by the saucy pekingese aka Peggy Lee, made up for it. Wonderful old time family movie to be viewed and discussed in today’s context.

I probably liked Cinderella the best. I just love happy endings.

101 Dalmations for me. Cruella wanting to skin those poor puppies was more than I was equipped to handle at 5 years old.

I couldn’t finish watching 101 Dalmations as a child – I couldn’t comprehend why the mean lady hated the dogs so much.

I remember thinking Snow White was very scary, especially the part where she’s lost and running through the woods.

For me it was Snow White. I grew up with a stepmom, and I was terrified that the stepmom tried to have her stepdaughter killed. It was always on the back of my mind when I was really young…

The Rescuers when the little girl goes down into the caves used to scare me quite a bit, I was always relieved when she would get out.

I think Snow White scared me a little when I was younger. I’ve never seen it all the way through because of that.

Dumbo was mine as well. I don’t think I’ve even seen it more than once. Once was enough for me.

The Rescuers also had Brutus and Nero who were quite frightening.
