Last weekend the kids and I spent a fun morning at 4 Cats on Main St. 4 Cats on Main is already a pretty cool place …..seriously, I could just sit and ‘breathe’ art supplies. I love art supplies. Sigh. I also love any organizations that can enthusiastically share the joy of art and creation and show how much fun it can be for everyone of all ages.
Saturday morning was a fabulous meeting of two worlds as it was Nintendo of Canada that had invited us to attend the class where the kids would use their artistic chops to learn to draw their favourite POKEMON characters.
Nintendo of Canada and 4Cats Arts Studio hosted a series of free Pokémon-themed art classes in Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria, where kids were encouraged to bring iconic Pokémon characters to life by channeling their artistic talents. They used a lovely little water colour set with a special pen and step-by-step photos for reference, and the young artists were able to draw and paint their way to creating the perfect team of Pokémon!
The enthusiastic young artists were also lucky enough to sample the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo on the New Nintendo 3DS XL. The free demo let players experience exclusive scenarios in the vast and wondrous Hoenn region, where they encounter Pokémon that will Mega-Evolve for the first time. Players can even bring a new Mega-Evolved Pokémon into the full version of Pokémon Omega Ruby or Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, and items that are obtained while playing the special demo can also be transferred to the full versions of the games once purchased. My son already has both games and is apparently a ‘pro’……all the evolving and mega evolving sound a bit complicated to a non Pokemon person like me, but the kids all love it.
For more information on Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, go to http://www.pokemonrubysapphire.com/en-ca/. They have an ‘art’ contest running right now that your Pokemon fans can enter. The winning artists will receive a 100-card pack of custom-designed Pokémon Trading Card Game cards displaying their artwork!
4Cats studios are also running a huge amount of workshops and Spring Break camps, so do check them out for art fun over the holidays.
