I will freely admit to not liking the new CFL bulbs. I get the energy saving, eco and money saving, but I don’t like purchasing something that I have to be so careful with to dispose of and also to have around me kids. Lets not even mention how harsh the light is on them, no matter how you try to pretty them up with different lampshades. They cast a harsh light in my opinion.
I have always preferred the LED based light fixtures I could buy for the kids rooms. The only issue was the amount of heat they tended to pour out. But Philips seems to have solved that problem with their new LED bulbs. The Soft White is great in my living room lamp, no bluish tinge and much more similar to those old bulbs of yore. Plus an average rated life is 25,000 hours – 22.8 years. Can’t beat that. Not to mention BCHydro is implementing instant in-store rebates for LED use in October as part of their PowerSmart month initiative.
I am quite impressed with the one bulb I received to review and would happily replace the rest of the bulbs in our house with these types. They feel safer. They are solid and ….yes I like LED! The one thing they need to work on is the impenetrable packaging. NOBODY needs that.

First off whenever you purchase a big name brand bulb like Phillips you are going to be overpaying from other generic bulbs that have the same stats and cost less. It would be helpful to let your readers know about this Kerry. Also was this a sponsored or guest post?
As mentioned in the post I received a bulb to review and that was it.
If you have tips or info about generic products or saving money for families, I would love to share that on Crunchy Carpets
