Edited to add: As you can see below, the people promoting Wowwee Toys were quick to reach out. As I should have been to them regarding the INSANE amount of batteries everything needed. Sorry Scott. I will say again…these are great toys. They are worth the batteries. My son LOVES the Light Strike system. They have been blown away by the sounds and lights and just how cool they look. There has been a lot of running around with them and the neighbour kids and that is what I like to see.
I will admit to being totally unimpressed with the two large boxes we received containing the cute Lite Sprites and laser tag like Light Strike stuff from WowWee Toys. Mainly because the PR firm had provided no batteries, and these products require a LOT of batteries. I have changed my mind a bit since we did manage to scrounge up SOME batteries so we could properly check these things out.
When we got the girly (OMG THERE IS NO BATTERIES) meltdown out of the way and Caity could see how cute the little Light Sprite was, she was happy. This is a perfect girly girl product. Magic, light up sprites and lots of accessories for them, including cute bugs n butterfly companions.
We got Prisma and the Light Wand and a set of cute bug things and a swing set. You can build up your whole world for all the different Light Sprites available. This is all perfect girl/magic stuff. The wand changes colours and so does Prisma. Even Tara loved her and figured her out. The hook with these sprites is that they ‘share’ their colours. The light wand can transfer its colours and spell to the sprites. A nice set up for imaginative game play if your kids like the whole fairy theme. Apart from the little bug things, there is very little in the too easy to vacuum pieces. The sprites are not articulated dolls. They are lights. It is up to the imagination to make them ‘do’ stuff. I tend to like that in toys.
Now what totally unimpressed us till we DID get all SEVEN batteries was the Light Strike guns. But WOW!! These things are cool! WowWee was kind enough to provide two different guns and an assortment of add on’s and targets for them. Adam and his buddies had just enough fun racing about the complex with these things talking and flashing warnings at them.
I am not sure why the video has almost adults playing this, but the 8 to 10 year olds were leaping around totally unlike this, but having a great time. The lights are bold and clear and the voice system is very cool. Seriously, if you have boys who love all the space/combat/war games…this is a system that will get them off their butts.
My kids love running around playing zombie hunting and lord knows what else. Between that and the Nerf armament we have around here, we are safe from things that hate light, noise and sponge.
I know GUNS are a big controversy when it comes to boys and their toys. Many parents don’t like them. Many don’t even think about it. When Adam was wee, we did think about it and instead of banning them, have instead monitored how he managed playing the games. Was it all too much? Did he over react to violence etc. Our thing has been to keep the ‘war’ as unreal as possible. I was always happy with space, zombies, etc. It wasn’t till I felt a lot more comfortable with the whole combat thing did I even let him look at something like Call of Duty.
I am happy to encourage game play that gets my kids outside running around. If your kids like guns, these are a fun set. If you have lots of rechargeable batteries.
HI Kerry-
Scott Goldberg from WowWee here. I apologize you didn’t receive batteries in your shipment. I take responsibility for that. I’m so sorry, I just wish you had reached out to me about that mistake vs writing it in your blog. Is there someway I can make it up to you?
Thanks
Scott
It might have been a mistake to not include the batteries, but I certainly wouldn’t find that a good reason to say I was unimpressed with such an awesome toy.
