Startling Study Reveals Disturbing Truth Behind Bo On The Go

March 22, 2011 by Kerry Sauriol 45 Comments

No really.

It doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with the fact that there is just too much kids tv on in this house.

We watch a lot of  CBC Kids in the mornings…again.  The  two older kids love this for the nostalgia factor, and for Tara it is all new and exciting. I myself am grateful that they have added some new shows.

One show has started to disturb us  all though.  Before it just annoyed me.  Perky people telling me to ‘get up and go go go’ first thing in the morning don’t make my friend list.

That show is Bo On The Go.

From the Official site….

Each adventure is a mythic quest with a clear goal for Bo. Like all heroes, Bo faces challenges and obstacles and receives small rewards and victories on the way to her ultimate objective. Bo’s “Bo-Buddies” – our young viewers – must help Bo by moving along with her.

Positive, cheerful, energetic, and determined to solve all problems she encounters, Bo will lead the way for kids at home to get ‘on the go’.

“Bo’s “Bo-Buddies” – our young viewers – must help Bo by moving along with her.” This gives her ‘Maximum GO POWER!’  Basically she needs YOUR energy to help her complete her quest.  She makes you RUN until HER energy rings are fully charged.

She takes your ENERGY for her own.

Sound familiar oh fellow cheesy sci fi/horror lovers!!????

See the similarity…..the eyes.

The only difference is the choice of victims…but being that Bo is obviously young..her victims are young too…she probably cannot yet absorb a full adults energy.

Yet.

Now this is not just me.  Adam too was disturbed and we both decided together that Bo is indeed some sort of energy vampire.  I don’t even think he has SEEN Lifeforce.

This reassure me that I am not completely mad and that there is something vaguely disturbing about a child demanding her Bo Buddies for Maximum Power.

Let’s not forget that she lives in some sort of tower ALONE with only a dragon and a bizarre wizard for company.  They must be friends with Max and Ruby.

I apologize to CBC Kids.  They do a great job of the morning entertainment for little kids…and their efforts and quality programming is truly appreciated….after my second cup of coffee.

Aug 11, 2014:  I am closing the comments down on this post because frankly the morons out there who apparently think I am serious about the evils of a kids cartoon that my children watched and loved are driving me nuts.  Plus, it is my site and I can do what I want. So neener neener.

Dec 3rd, 2016:  My new theme doesn’t seem to have a ‘close comments’ button and I have noticed you all back at it.  Do I really have to delete this stupid post?  Let it go people….

OMG you’re so right! And if she gets enough children she’ll be big enough to eat adults! She must be stopped!!!

    Also, she sounds like Dora.

Can I just be particularly grateful — just for a moment — that most of my kids now watch Family Guy? Yeah, I’m that mom.

I’ve watched exactly 5 minutes of Bo, and she creeped me out too much.

Honestly, I find the whole idea of kids’ TV encouraging activity to be a little ridiculous. It’s like a way to encourage parents to let their kids watch more TV. I let my kids watch TV, I’m no saint in that regard. But if I really wanted them to be active, I’d turn the TV off and send them outside.

My seven year old was upset one morning because she had the song stuck in her head. She was mostly upset because the song only has one line “Bo on the Goooo, Bo on the Goooo!” My kids don’t like that show either. They like the Spongebob. lol

There is a lot of programming I can’t personally watch. No isn’t one of them for me. Anything that gets my nearly 4-year-old daughter and I up exercising together on a rainy day is good for me! And if I am going to choose between tv shows, one that gets her up and moving will always win!

Your title suggests a ‘study’ done on the show. Where is the study link?
    I agree with Kari..
This show is better than cynical SpongeBob and inappropriate for young children- Family Guy. Sorry had to say it.

Good luck everyone with filtering your children’s TV.. I try to also. ;0)

this make me so mad… my two year old loves this show. i think it teaches her to be active while we are in the house (rainy days, cold days, extremely hot days) and also teaches her to work togehter with Bo to get things acomplished. Bo even tells them to “clean up” before their activity and this has taught my daughter to pick up her toys. It’s whimsical, as when you are active with Bo, you make magical doors and such appear. My daughter thinks this is really neat and that in some way she has really made it happen. (nothing wrong with an imagination)…

I just think it’s sick that you’re claiming that this resource lacking “study” has shown some cynical underlying to this harmless show. I admit, it is probably not for older children so it could get on someone’s nerves but is in no way trying to say the character is “sucking” energy from children. It shows teamwork and helping others, in this case Bo, to get things accomplished.

Next time you say something is a “study” and that it “reveals” something, have some facts and resources to back it up. The show was made for kids, it has no satanic message behind it.

I’m sorry but this is the stupidest article I’ve ever tried to read. It’s only to get your kids up off the floor and moving a little. Anyone who would prefer spongebob shouldn’t own a tv. It had no message at all and was voted the LEAST educational kids show on the air. Wow

OMG, you are so right, I found your article because I wanted to see if other people were as creeped out by her energy stealing as we were! Yet my 2 year old still loves it so I was looking for a doll for her, but then the idea of Coraline comes to mind.. the doll will probably be a conduit for energy harnessing… Aghhhh!

I agree, yay for Netflix and YouTube. However, they only have Season 1. Wondering how many seasons are out there.

I’m not sure how this show came on since we were watching something else on Netflix and I had just woken up so I was in n out while my I put something on for my almost 2 year old. As a Rasta I noticed the rasta colors and music references. I saw this as positive for my youth but my Queen had her reservations about the show that went beyond that the characters weren’t dark skinned like our youth. So I did a search and came to this site. First off, our youth loves to dance and he will dance anytime there is music so this show did get him on his feet. Next, the concept of an energy vampire is a salient one. It has been well argued that music gets into your soul as many church groups have moved to ban certain music that can put the wrong thing into your soul. The main character does rather demand that the audience helps her rather than request it. However, she also explains that “when you move with me you give me energy”. This is a sort of energy vampire disclaimer. The viewer is made aware of what is happening but at the same time told to be a part of it rather than asked if they will be a part of it. We as parents want our youth to respect others and not be demanding of them. After the energy has been built up she explains, “we did it”. This is the truth behind energy collaboration that, when many come together as one they are able to achieve what they could not on their own. The issue is that she asks for your youth to give her their energy rather than saying something like, lets build up our energy. So the real question is, did she do it or did we do it? In this consideration, the disclaimer is what sets this show apart from the many “magical world of Disney” productions and the like that zap your energy without you acknowledging it. If this still seems too abstract for you consider that you always have control of your energy and the things you purchase take some of it since it was your life force that brought about the money needed for them. Lastly, you don’t necessarily have to move with her to give her your energy, just sitting there watching the show will do that, try it and you’ll see that she will still make it to her goal. Just watching the show gives her energy, but the same goes for all shows we put on for our youth.

You are crazy. She was making a joke about a super annoying kids show. I’m listening to her trying to get my 4 year old to bo boogie right now. I don’t believe she’s trying to steal our energy nor does the author of this article but after reading your comment, I’m a little confused about whether you think she’s taking your energy but believe it’s all for good if she’d only ask for it a little more nicely. I also think it’s disturbing that people are so upset about one woman’s opinion.

My little two year old loves this show and it is a pretty clever show, this show isnt meant to be analyzed, this shows purpose is to entertain while getting little children to move a little bit. This show isnt supposed to make sense. My daughter knows how to jump because of this show. Its got fun tunes that my daughter dances too. I may think it is annoying sometimes but my daughter absolutely adores it. If it keeps my daughter busy so that i can clean up my house or have some time to do other things that need to be done then that show is ok by me. All im saying is yall are putting too much thought into this show which is a completely total waste of time and brain space.

Oh my Gooood. Do people really not get this this is humor, comedy, satire? I love that the professor didn’t get that. Professor in what? Certainly not English/Literary Studies. Haven’t we all wanted to poke out our eyes when watching children’s television? Don’t we all wonder why DCF isn’t tracking down Max and Ruby’s parents? Or what the creators of Yo Gabba Gabba are smoking? Please, if you didn’t understand this, NEVER visit a site called The Onion or you will be very upset.

There are far worse programs on the air! I guess I’m kinda hoping that he Does turn into a zombie or vampire by watching this show.

My 3 and 5 year old girls love this show. I like it because it helps them learn their animals, develop their imaganation, and get up off their butts. My girls are very active anyway (both have adhd) and this show helps them work some energy out. It is great for rainy, cold, or overly hot days that they are stuck inside. It gets them to excerise and play together. It is simple enough for my 3 year old to understand what she is saying and wants them to do. And my 5 year old loves all the lively colors and helping her little sister excerise, sometimes I get up and excerise with them and they love that.. I can not believe people fimd this creepy and not some of the other cartoons offered today like: adventure time, spongebob, and such. I will continue to let my girls watch this for as long as they like. My 5 year olds told me yesterday that when her PE teacher is absent he has the sub turn on bo on the go and lets the kids excerise that way.

Seriously…… I think you need to have your “Crunchy Carpets” cleaned…… or do something more productive on the web then just complain about a fantastic show like “Bo on the go”…… two of my sixteen grandkids that we have over regularly love “Bo”….. it makes them active and they try to sing alone….. It’s the best use I have ever gotten out of our Wii.
I will check with my seven kids to see if there kids also like “Bo” as they all live in their own places now.
“Bo on the go” is a great way to keep them from being lifelong couch potatoes!
Why don’t you try remotely fixing computers like I do? (A plus certified, MCSE)……. Driving a school bus like I also do to supplement my business income? Or try fixing cars my main trade (twice fully re-certified ASE technician) ….. geeesss!
Are you a stay at home mom with nothing better to do then dream up opinions about kids shows? Or did you just want to pretend that you are doing something useful with a pointless blog?
I know….. (Follow the money)…..it’s the advertizing bling from blogging….right?

This is the most ignorant and ridiculous thing I have ever read in my life. God for bid someone encourages your children to be active, clean up after themselves and use their imagination. People like you are the reason why the majority of kids today are fat and lazy slobs who do absolutely nothing besides sit around playing video games. Kids need something like this to help burn off some of that energy. The parents who don’t get that are the ones who plop them down in front of TVs so they can play with their phones, and want to pump them full of medication and they don’t understand why the kids are acting up with nothing to do. I am daddy on the go, my son sucks all the energy out of me so it’s only right for him to give some to bo. Stop looking so deeply into it and let the kids enjoy themselves and use their imaginations.
