Mental Health and Child Birth Study Participants Needed

April 5, 2010 by Kerry Sauriol 2 Comments

The University of BC’s  School of Population and Public Health and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital are conducting a study on the many factors that may affect a woman’s mental health and well being during the first few weeks of giving birth.

They are looking for volunteers to participate who have given birth within the past three months. In this study, you will take part in one interview at a location of your choice and receive $20 for your participation. The researchers want to hear about your pregnancy and your experiences during the first few weeks with your new baby.

The study is funded by the BC Mental Health and Addictions Research Network.
Your privacy will be maintained at all times.
They  will never share any information you give with anyone without your permission.
Any information you give  will not be part of your hospital record.
You will not be identified by name in any materials.

For more information, contact Sarah, Makenzie, or Ashley at:

(778) 235-7120 or

  • perinatal.mental.health@gmail.com
  • If you can help them out with their study, please do so. I think the more research and awareness of pregnancy, birth and post natal mental health issues done the better for us all.

I suffered what was probably ‘mild’ PPD after the birth of Adam…..mostly really due to exhaustion, but that black pit of despair that I teetered on the edge of, scared me and made me VERY aware of my mental health as well as my physical in my subsequent pregnancies.

It is good to know that help is out there if we need it.

Participating in medical studies is a really great way to give something back to society. I hope they find enough volunteers.
