Crunchy Carpets

Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

Dona Nobis Pacem

June 4, 2008 by Kerry Sauriol 10 Comments

Mimi Writes challenged a wack of us to spread the word for her Blog Blast for Wednesday June 4 – a BlogBlast for Peace.

I was struck by this because when I was in a choir we sang a song called ‘Dona Nobis Pacem’ and it was one our favorites.

If I could have one wish come true,

It would be peace for me and you.

Peace in our hearts

and in our minds,

Peace now and ever for all mankind’

So.  How do you blog for peace?

There are many bloggers out there who fight for causes either through lobbying or volunteering or giving of charity  and so on.

There are many bloggers like Mimi herself who work hard at making sure we are always aware of those living in far worse situation than us.

Reminders that while me feel ‘at peace’ – while we feel ‘safe’ – it is really only an illusion….a feeling of safety usually created by nice homes, secure jobs and the fact that people aren’t currently trying to massacre us if we try to leave our homes.

But what is peace?

When will there be peace?

Does peace just mean the end to war?

But what is a war or military action is required to save a persecuted people?  Is that not creating peace THROUGH war?

I like that we can all wish for peace.   But I think we have to  think small scale for now.

I like that we can fight for those who need help being heard.

I want the wish for peace to mean a growth of global effort in equalizing the have  and have not’s.

I want the wish for peace to mean that we will speak out when WE or any other persons, nations or groups are being unjustly treated.

A united voice for fairness.

That is what I want for ‘Peace’

The love and tender concern in your words is beautiful. I personally don’t think the war – no matter how nobly intended – ever brings peace. I hope we will come to a day when we approach conflict and problems with imagination and love to change the world through peaceful means. I think we CAN do it. Peace.
