Crunchy Carpets

Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

I just don’t DO crafts…

April 7, 2007 by Kerry Sauriol 9 Comments

It just doesn’t occur to me that crafts with my kids is supposed to be a fun experience.

How can it be?  There is the mess.  There is the keeping both kids happy and mess free.  There is the mess.  There is my total lack of patience.  There is the mess.

.

these are not my eggs

But we did it.  We coloured the eggs.  This is a pointless exercise here..my kids won’t eat them.  But they like the mess.   They can’t stop touching them so there are coloured fingerprints dotting the house.
I will now be getting them to make nice Easter pictures/cards for the nana’s. They will yell and scream at each other and Caity will demand sparkles which is not good because she dumped the whole lot out last time we did cards – Christmas.

We don’t make a big deal about Easter..we are not religious, I hate the Easter Bunny.  And with our fractured family, there is no big Easter Dinner.

Chocolate is it.

I suppose I SHOULD make a bigger effort.  Take the kids to Easter activities, etc.  But not this year.  Not after spending a fortune on the cat and having to make sure he takes his meds and monitor his state of being.  Just too much.

And screw the crafts.  I do remember enjoying crafts as a kid….except for anything that involved cutting. Cutting for a leftie sucks.  Art.  I loved art….and I do enjoy big messy art with the kids.
I am a failure as a Stepford mom.

Let’s not discuss baking or sewing.

I don’t know what you’re talking about-I just LOVE doing crafts with my kids. And they NEVER make a mess. They are just so neat and pleasant when we do crafty things, as am I.

And God is now striking me.

I vacillate between “it’s good for kids to do creative things and make messes” and “it’s good for kids to live in a clean and orderly place”. Depends on the day.

I am so totally in agreement. it always sounds good in theory but is painful in practice.

That is why we pay the big money for Amber to go to school. She can go there and do crafts and make a mess.

I dont want even talk about the almost messes that came with Amber tugging on the paper while coloring eggs. I am so glad that is over. My heart can resume beating, again.

Oh I can so relate. 🙂

I’m not crafty, I don;t really feel comfortable in the kitchen and as for sewing, I can manage a button and that is about it. I’ve lived my whole adult life feeling incredibly inferior and defective because I’m not one of “those moms”. I love kids (I better since I have six of them!) but I just can’t sort out how to be a traditional mom. My poor kids!

LOL – I was going to say how great they turned out! And then I read that the pic isn’t yours! 🙂 We did eggs today, but they look like crap – Mikayla finally got out the acrylic paint and painted them! At least her’s look good!

Happy Easter to the Crunch family!

I’m with ya girl! I am the same way. We had such a mess when we were finished coloring eggs. Whadda mess. The whole time I was thinking, why is it so freakin’ cold and we can’t do this outside!?

Hope you had a fun filled chocolate day. 🙂
