Crunchy Carpets

Clean socks are a privilege, not a right

Anyone want to lay bets???

February 1, 2007 by Kerry Sauriol 7 Comments

Will my inlaws ACTUALLY check and or change Caity’s diaper while we are gone?  It is only a pullup!

I realize that sounds mean and petty…and yes, it is.

But Crunchy Husband and I have noticed that any time we ask them to watch the kids by the time we come back (usually an hour to two hours) her pants are wet from the diaper leaking….wouldn’t you notice this??

The only time we ever ask them to watch the kids is for big stuff, like business meetings or my weird doctor appointments. My mom usually steps in and it is always less painful when she does, but we don’t want take advantage of her generosity either.

The inlaws wouldn’t SEE the kids unless we did stuff like this or brought them over to visit.

When they watched the kids during my trip to the ER, I came home to a disaster.  The house was a mess.  Food and toys everywhere.  Stuff from the freezer left defrosting on the counter.  CH had thought that we could rest while they watched the kids..but instead I sent them home and cleaned up, put a dvd on and THEN got some rest.

My mom says the house was spotless when she left (spotless as it ever is here!!)..so in two hours….oh well.

When we had to use them for another babysitting emergency..we left a big list about their bedtime routines…Caity is simple.give her a bottle and put her to bed.

Did they do this?  Nope. Came home and heard how they got the stroller and walked and rocked her till she fell asleep! WTF?  Did we not just tell you that she LIKES to go to bed.

Again..thank goodness we have family who WILL jump in and help.   But sometimes it just isn’t worth it.   Caity doesn’t even like them…She gets so frustrated because they don’t listen to her and don’t understand her.

And my fave MIL thing so far…..Apparently CH was ranting to his mom about having a hard time with Adam.  She sighed and said it was genetics and must be from MY side of the family.   CH just asked if the crack addict uncle of his had no part of this genetics thing!!!

Oh well, it will only be a couple of hours.

Wish us luck.

I have better luck, though my MIL is totally wacky. My husband basically refers to her as his “drunk mom” most of the time now. Eeek!

You know…I don’t know what it is with MIL’s. For some reason, they always think they know everything better because they’ve done it before. But sadly it’s been so long, that they must not remember how it’s done.

By the way, it’s my first time on your blog…I like how you write.
