Dukoral Canada has a cute contest running on their Facebook page at the moment where you can figure out what sort of traveler you are for a chance to win $1,000 Air Canada gift card or a Go Pro Camera. Apparently, I am a Culture Vulture.
Or I guess I would be. To be honest we are not a terribly well-traveled family. I have been to the UK and a few spots across the United States, but Disneyland is as exotic as it has gotten for us as a far as family travel is concerned. However, I tend to go extremely prepared when traveling and bring along almost the entire medicine cabinet with me. You never know right? I spend a lot of pre-trip planning and researching and making sure we are covered for most eventualities. The most we have had to deal with was severe sea-sickness on a rough patch during our Alaskan Disney Cruise. Our poor boy was hanging off the bunk bed begging to be airlifted to land he felt so miserable.
We haven’t hit destinations where products like Dukoral have been recommended, but I can’t imagine NOT making sure it wasn’t part of my list.
Why Dukoral?
Over half of travelers’ who visit high-risk destinations like Mexico, the Caribbean and Africa will be affected by travelers’ diarrhea caused by Enterotoxigenic E. Coli (ETEC). DUKORAL® is a drinkable vaccine that can help prevent the illness caused by ETEC for up to three months and is available without a prescription. It is indicated for the prevention of and protection against travellers’ diarrhea and/or cholera in adults and children two years of age and older who will be visiting areas where there is a risk of contracting travelers’ diarrhea caused by ETEC, or cholera caused by V. cholera.
It is the simplest and most efficient way to make sure you family stays safe and keeps having just FUN when on vacation.
Pre-planning and researching your destination is key and even more so when traveling with children. Educating your kids about simple and easy ways to avoid getting sick like avoiding ice cubes, drinking shower water, tap water, watching what you eat means you don’t have to spend your holiday on high alert. Products like Dukoral is a great product to add to that pre-vacation planning.
Who is at Risk?
Depending on where you are going in the world, you and your family could be at risk due to water conditions, sanitation and more. For some illness caused by ETC and be much more than a case of diarrhea or an upset stomach.
- Children
- The elderly
- People with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus
- People with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
- People with congestive heart failure
- People with chronic renal failure (kidney disease)
All can be affected much more seriously by ETC caused illnesses. Make sure you and your family are protected before heading away to exotic climes.
