Once again, I will witter on about how much I love blogging and the opportunities it has afforded me..okay that was it.
One of these chances was to be invited out to an evening with the people representing Maple Leaf Foods.
There was two key areas that they wanted to focus on with us…..Their commitment to food safety and their new products.
There was plenty of moms there who were very seriously taking notes and did a fantastic job of asking hard hitting questions…that were really and truly answered as best as they could mostly by Sharon Beals who is the Senior VP for Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
She rocked. She was warm and open and great at explaining all what they did, what is involved and what they are doing now to make sure that people are never harmed ever again.
And I believed her.
I think Maple Leaf Foods has done all that a huge corporation can to apologize. I don’t think they were ever deliberately unsanitary. The risks of bacteria and so on are so HUGE when it comes to industrial sized food processing. I don’t honestly know how you can keep on top of it…it is the price of our industrialized society….factory food is hard to keep clean and safe. And lets not talk about profit and so on OR ingredients etc.
We are all learning to read labels.
Which was why they were doing this type of presentation too.
They want us to know their products are safe AND healthy for our families too.
I know MANY MANY people are totally against processed foods. And I don’t blame them….again, we are all reading labels these days.
But I am mother of convenience and so processed foods are in my house and I love the speed and ease they give me when trying to feed all my ravening beasts.
So yes..we eat quite a lot of foods under the Maple Leaf umbrella.
Did I mention all the ladies taking notes very seriously? My eyes and ears sort of glazed over when they brought out warm bread with melted cheese on it. Hmmm carbs.
I was pretty distracted after that.
After Ms Beals had wrapped her talk that included their FOOD SAFETY PLEDGE and their enhanced FOOD SAFETY PROTOCOLS , the head chef from their Testing Kitchen presented us with a main course from this…
To this….. and it was delish. There are three to a box, which is a bit of an odd number, but very tasty.
Did I mention how yummy the 8 minute bread is. Hmmm carbs!!!
We also sampled their new NATURALS line of deli meats. We were given a couple of these packs as well as the bread to bring home and the kids have given the thumbs up to the meat. Which is interesting because they don’t usually like the prepackaged stuff and prefer it from the deli counter. So there you go.
We were impressed that the ingredients on these meats reads as thus: “Ham, water, sea salt, vinegar, lemon juice concentrate, smoke flavour, cane sugar, cultured celery extract, smoke.”
Not bad. And the package does reseal REALLY well. A first.
So there you go. A PR outreach that was done well..with class and honesty. Thank you!
We walked out of there with a fab goody bag of the above mentioned products AND a digital meat thermometer!!
And I have one for you guys too. Don’t worry…no meat! But coupons FOR the new Naturals and Prime products, a fab apron, the delish Dempsters Breads and digital Meat thermometer!
This giveaway will have to be for local readers only, I am afraid…as I can’t really do SHIPPING on this one! So all you local Lower Mainland friends, readers, bloggers….just comment below about what Maple Leaf Products YOU have tried and I will enter you in a draw for this great cooler bag of stuff.
I will draw a winner in two weeks from now…June 7th!
